so I have read here it is cheaper to book your train ticket 30 days in advance....now is that 30 actual days in advance or just a month ahead of time? This may be a silly question but, I just want to verify.

..check the SNCF site. Actually the cheapest tickets are the Prems..These are limited. No train can be booked more than 60 days before departure. Go to the web site just after that date and try to get a prem ticket if offered assuming you can live with some of the tickets attached to them.
