One night in Nice

My boyfriend and I will be in Nice in late August for a week and my parents will join us for one night only. I wan%26#39;t to take them somewhere good for dinner, it doesn%26#39;t have to be overly posh or expensive but just good food and atmosphere and something typical of the area. An outdoor seating area would be nice. Any idea%26#39;s would be appreciated, allaboutnice I would really value your suggestions as you seem to really know your stuff!

Thanks

Flattery will get you everywhere; I don%26#39;t really know the best, I just know what I like, it%26#39;s so difficult to recommend places. My current favourites that have outdoor seating are Chez Juliette, had another great meal there the other night, on the corner of rue Rossetti and benoit bunico in the Old Town, pay about 30 euros a head plus wine or choose the 3-course menu for 17,50 euros. A cheaper place but I really like it and it seems to appeal across all generations is La Becasse opposite the Opera House almost, rue St Francois de Paul. This has a private intenal courtyard which is the jewel in its crown. The food is fine, large portions, not top cuisine but perfectly respectable. I took my sister there for the first time on Tuesday and she liked it a lot, particularly the private garden, really pleasant. She had the Salade %26#39;Becasse%26#39; I defy you to feel hungry after it. Has many familiar things on the menu plus a few Nicoise specialities. I also like Le Tire Bouchon, a heavier menu from a different part of France but exceptioonal food and service, bit dearer, 28 euros the set course, eat outside off the back of the restaurant, rue de l%26#39;Abbye, front of restaurant on rue de la prefecture. You maty of course want to eat in the heart of the Cours Saleya, I wouldn%26#39;t know where to start, perhaps someone else could throw in some recommendations. La Voglia was mentioned on another posting, we walked by it tonight, it does look good, very modern. As you are here for a week, you could suss out a few places and see what you fancy. I have other recommendations here:

some info might need updating, a lot wsa written 1-2 years ago. Another evening possibility is a beach restaurant. Castel Plage right by the foot of Castle Hill is so pretty in the evening, I have had some very good lunches there but never remember to consider it for the evening, the prices that seem dear at lunch are more accetable at nught. Also consider La petite MAison and Le Comptoir perhaps on rue St PAul de Francois, a bit more upmarket and more formal, see if you like the look of them.

Hope this helps a bit - I%26#39;m probably better at recommending cheap dives than fancier places! best wishes anyway. The only other option you may like to consider is lunch at la colombe d%26#39;or in St Paul if you can get your parents at lunchime, the 400 bus from Nice gets you there, unforgettable meal and setting, may be too late to reserve a table now.

Thanks allaboutnice for your fab suggestions, food is a very big part of my holiday and I can%26#39;t wait to get there now! Loved your website too, very useful and informative with lots of great pictures, it%26#39;s much better than the Nice tourist board site infact! I shall write some reviews when I return for anyone who%26#39;s interested. Thanks again!
