advice? museum squeezing over Labor Day... Paris vs. NYC

Hello! Hoping for some guidance, please... for my dear b.f.%26#39;s 30th b-day we%26#39;re taking off all Labor Day week: NYC from noon Sunday thru Tuesday (evening flight from JFK), then Wednesday a.m. till an early Sunday a.m. in Paris. He%26#39;s a first-timer to both places.

He%26#39;s a total space geek, so I%26#39;m planning to visit the Natural History Museum in NYC and the Rose Space Center movies (though pricey: $66 for the two of us - ooof).

From there, I%26#39;m stumped. He%26#39;s also interested in medieval and ancient art (Greco-Roman and Eguptian). The Cloisters and Met in NY would be great, but we%26#39;re only in NYC for 2-ish days; thought perhaps instead we could do the Louvre and Cluny in Paris, as we%26#39;ll have the luxury of more time there?

BUT: I%26#39;m a big believer in just walking around when traveling, partaking of the cuisine, experiencing the sights, scents, and sounds of a place. Also, we%26#39;re doing this on a budget - frankly I%26#39;d rather eat the fruits of our expenditures... so I%26#39;m not sure that spending time and cash on museums in EITHER place is the way to go.

Anyone be so kind as to weigh in?

The Cluny will be great if he likes middle-ages. In the Louvre you have an Egyptian and Greek, and Roman area, check on their website as some part of the Egypt area is closed on some days of the week. If you go to the Louvre after 6 pm you have a discounted price on wednesdays and fridays, which would give you time to do part of the museum but in fact i highly recommend at least a half-day there...Don%26#39;t forget you have the Palais de la découverte in Paris behind the Grand Palais which has a big asttronomical part, and has experiences shown in public (in French i think but the electricity one is so much fun no need to speak French for this one)
