Porte Maillot

Hi,

I%26#39;m taking my wife to Paris for a few days for her 30th birthday this Thursday, and we%26#39;re flying with Ryanair, meaning we arrive at Beauvais Airport.

I understand the bus drops you off at Porte Maillot, but we need to get to Rue de Rennes, Paris 75006.

I know that the hotel we%26#39;re going to is near a Metro stop, but was wondering if other posters reckon it is easier to hop in a taxi, given that it is approx 6km. The only concern I have about the Metro is that I currently have a fractured toe, and have to watch what I%26#39;m doing!

Any help greatly appreciated.

With a fractured toe and bags i would just grab a taxi. That avoids all of the stairs, escalators and turnstiles. If your budget is tight the number 82 bus takes you from Porte Maillot to Rue de Rennes in front of Gare Montparnasse. That avoids stairs and whatnot. Not sure where you hotel is on Rue de Rennes however....

Many thanks for your fast reply Morgan.

We are going to the Best Western Aramis Saint Germain - its on 126 Rue de Rennes.

Are the buses frequent and how would I know which stop is mine?!

Bus lines : 58, 89, 94, 95, 96 are closest to your hotel. They stop every 5 minutes or so during the day...

Try the public transport site (in English) to get details on stops.

For Rue de Rennes, the stop%26#39;s name is likelyto be something like%26#39; Montparnasse-Rennes%26#39;.

You%26#39;ll find the detailled map with all the stops%26#39; names at the stop at Porte Maillot, but also inside the bus.

If you%26#39;re still not sure, ask the driver, once you%26#39;re on Blvd. Montparnasse and Tower comes closer and closer.

However, if you%26#39;re not familiar with the city, I%26#39;d take a cab, because it will still be a little walk along Rue de Rennes until your hotel.

Also, Rue de Rennes is always terribly busy and crowded (sidewalks and street). So, you%26#39;ll better off with a cab to start with.

Hmmm the yellow pages says it%26#39;s at 124 Rue de Rennes. Not that big a difference though.

For the bus, you would board bus 82 at the Porte Maillot stop on Avenue de Malakoff. The bus stand will have the name of the stop and the buses that stop there posted above it. They are usually little glass huts with a glass roof and seating area. Some of the bus lines will have a LCD display that shows how much longer till the next bus. You want to be going towards Luxembourg. With your back to Place Maillot it will be on the right side of the road. If unsure just ask but the direction will be also marked on the bus stand.

Your stop is Place du 18 Juin 1940. There is also the Tour Montparnasse, the only skyscraper in Paris city limits, at the stop so its hard to miss. Inside the bus there is an LCD screen that displays the next stop. If it isnt working for some reason (havent had that prob myself) you can also look out the window and read the names of the stops on top of the bus stands. I usually just keep in mind a couple of the names of stops before my stop so I know I am almost there. Yours are:

Ourdinot

Duroc

Maine-Vaugirard

Here is a link to the bus map which will also be displayed at the bus stop and inside the bus:

When you exit the bus, with your back to the skyscraper, the Rue de Rennes is the large blvd strait ahead. Its a short walk in that direction to your hotel.

The bus comes between every 5 and 12 minutes.

Here is a map of your route with little maps at the beginning and end of trip:

That%26#39;s probably way to much info and makes it sound scary! Its really fairly easy. I guess the main thing is to be good with maps so that you dont end up walking in circles looking for the bus stop or not be scared to ask. You can buy your tickets directly from the driver for 1.40 euros each.

WOW!

So happy to see so many excellent and detailed replies. Many thanks one and all.

Looking forward to appearing as though I know what I%26#39;m doing to the wife now! ;)

Kind regards.
