I have just returned from paris and I%26#39;m having PPD (post paris depression). I hope i will get over it soon. I think some nice french food items would help with recovery. Do any of you locals like cocochanel or metromole or raphy know of any reliable french food mail order sources? some great cheese, olives or vinaigre would comfort me.
thanks,
rj

Try www.frenchfeast.com. I%26#39;ve never ordered from them so I can%26#39;t tell you about thier service.
Dean and Deluca is a great reputable gourmet food store based in New York that I am familiar with and they have a great selection of upscale gourmet food that they will mail order. Their website is Deandeluca.com. They have French cheese and all kinds of good stuff.
If you miss France, try to find a French cafe near you. If you go to citysearch.com, you may be able to locate one locally. There is a good French cafe near me with French decorations and posters. The owner is a French chef and there is even a bartender girl who is Parisian. I try to flirt with her sometimes but she doesn%26#39;t really flirt back though.
To help with your Post Paris depression, I also recommend getting French CDs. If you go to the search box in this forum and type %26quot;Parisian music CDs%26quot;, you%26#39;ll find some good suggstions.
Also to help with your Paris longing, go to the search box again and type movies so you can get a good idea of what French movies to watch.
If you order some French food like cheese and wine and then put on a French CD and later watch a French movie, it will help with your Post Paris depression. You will feel very French for that evening and it will help comfort you.

Ohhhh dear I understand you so well!! I am in Holland for some years now and still dreaming of my time in Paris. Photos also help a lot...make enlargements of your best shots!! Buy some nice french movie filmed in Paris (or american one but still turned in Paris) and then start planning your next trip there.
I know someone special that is in California right now. So now in addition to the Parisian malinchony I have a california dreaming malinchony!!! Where exactly in California do you live??

Poilane will send their bread anywhere in the world.

You can also take a look at www.igourmet.com. They have a large selection of cheese, bread, meats, etc... I have ordered cheese from them in the past but this was when they were only allowed to ship pasturized cheese, so it wasnt as good. But now they offer unpasturized so I am planning to order from them soon too.

I too have PPD!
I have a renewed interest in French film though! I liked the comedy %26#39;Apres Vous%26#39; with Daniel Auteil because the action largely took places in a Paris restaurant and in the Parisian streets and parks. Great memories!
I went into the city and did a French cooking class at the Alliance Francaise with a French chef. It was great fun to TRY to keep up with the French instructions. But, it didn%26#39;t TASTE quite the same as in Paris! Several critical ingredients can%26#39;t be imported here due to quarantine and so it ends up tasting sort of, %26#39;recognisable%26#39;....
Alas, the only cure is to go back I fear!

I have ordered from both deananddeluca.com and markys.com and have been pleased with both. Cheese, foie gras, mustard, even butter, are all available.
Unfortunately, there still isn%26#39;t much in the way of decent produce available here. That%26#39;s what I love the most about eating in France.
I also subscribe to French magazines, buy French books from amazon.fr and watch French movies every week or two.
But best of all is that I am ready to plan my next trip shortly after one ends. We were in France in June and I%26#39;m taking my wife to Nice for her birthday over Thanksgiving weekend and we%26#39;re spending 5 weeks in France next year. So I can spend plenty of time thinking about my next trip.

For those of who you out there who have PPD or if you just love Paris, I want to sing this special song your you. It was written by Cole Porter:
I love Paris in the spring time
I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the summer
when it sizzles
I love Paris in the winter
when it drizzles . . .
I love Paris every moment
Every moment of the year
I love Paris,
Why oh why do I love Paris?
Because my love.....is......... here!
