relax travelnutty

This is a free forum, if people want to ask questions, they should feel free to do so without ridicule. If you do not like it, just ignore. As I said this is a free forum and people can come and go as they please. If there is something that I do not like I leave. Maybe you should have the same attitude

huh?

I suspect you are directing this comment to me because the %26quot;search%26quot; thread has been topped...

You obviously have totally missed the point of my suggestion to try a search.

The point is - there is SO much detail and information THROUGHOUT the forum that a poster could use that might not be retold again... It is to BENEFIT the poster that they try a search.

Think of it this way. You could sit on your sofa and say to yourself, %26quot;I sure wish someone would tell me about the arrondissements in Paris%26quot;. Now, if that is all you do, then you won%26#39;t get much information, will you? But - if you go an extra step, and post a question on this board, then some people will answer you. That%26#39;s great... but what if you take ANOTHER extra step and do a search to see what else has been said about the arrondissements? Wow, think how much more you will know then!

Of course, no one HAS to do a search... and it is an open forum, that%26#39;s why I and others* can make useful suggestions, and that%26#39;s why you are free to ignore those suggestions...

* you%26#39;ll notice that I haven%26#39;t raised that post - OTHER people are doing it because they agree...

And remember local experts are also free to answer questions...

So the better the questions the better the answers.

We did not get the Local expert besides our name because we were always waiting for the answers. We searched for answers both on TA and on other sites. And we quite often search when we don%26#39;t know the answer to a question.

So if we get more new questions we as local experts will also learn more about our preferred destinations.

Why the anger, Pete?

You%26#39;ve been on TA long enough to know how it works, so why

are you directing such hostility to Travelnutty?

I don%26#39;t see where anyone has been ridiculed around here. There may be some playful kidding, but I think people who post here, especially the Paris experts, are extremely patient after seeing the same question come up over and over.

So, my advice is to lighten up.

I keep bumping the search thread up for several reasons:

1) not everyone might see a question. what if someone with amazing information just happens to be on vacation or not reading that day? threads get buried pretty quick. if folks do a search they can find AAAALLLLLLL the previous answers.

3) people come and go. for example, there%26#39;s a chap by the name IrishRover who hasn%26#39;t been seen for a few weeks who gives AMAZING info. Same for KDKSail who knows the metro better than his own hand. But people won%26#39;t find it unless they do a search.

2) people aren%26#39;t going to give as detailed answers every time they answer the same question over and over.

the suggestion to do a search isn%26#39;t meant as ridicule, it%26#39;s to their benefit. Just like searching google instead of going to a single website -- you get tons more info and opinions that way.

Yes JustGrace!, it%26#39;s more like %26quot;the first two hours of googling has already been done for you and it%26#39;s down to the really valuable stuff%26quot;.

I%26#39;d like to add that the search function on TA is surprisingly intelligent and powerful. It%26#39;s really worth doing %26quot;one more search%26quot; beyond google to sharpen the pencil.

Travelnutty provides so much great information and such detail that is obvious to me, a relative newby to this forum, that the suggestion to search first was in no way mean spirited but constructive direction to new posters. I see lots of posts from people who either didn%26#39;t realize how or that there was a search function (like me when I first started reading) and was thrilled to search on topics of particular interest to me. In many cases the ground has been covered and often by Travelnutty (e.g., Carte Orange discussions that still leave me puzzled). So I appreciate the effort to provide good direction as that as my purpose in being here. Thanks, Travelnutty!

Thanks for the kind words...

now I%26#39;m going off to search for a hotel for %26#39;echiang%26#39;.... ciao!

|||

And you find a ton of neat stuff that you never even thought to ask about, but is truly useful when you search rather than just asking your question. I can waste a whole day just reading searched threads... even if they don%26#39;t answer my question!

|||

Of course if we had some sort of %26#39;sticky%26#39; system where there was one post that could be edited by those known as %26#39;local experts%26#39; which answered 50% of the questions posted here....

well I guess I%26#39;d have nothing to do then would I :)
