Montparnasse District....Advice etc.

hi! My friend and I will be visiting Paris from 29/08 - 01/09. We%26#39;ll be staying in the Montparnasse distract (15. Arr) in the Aberotel Montparnasse. Has anyone ever stayed there?

What is the Montparnasse district like?

We both love %26quot;eclectic%26quot; things/areas! Where is there to go that%26#39;s a little bit different and off the beaten track?

We%26#39;ve also been trying to book TGV tickets to La Rochelle over the Internet via the SCNF website. I%26#39;ve chose the destination as Ireland and I don%26#39;t know about anyone else but it has been taking over 90 minutes for the credit card details to go through that I%26#39;ve just given up in frustration! does anyone know what the story is with that?

Cheers everyone!

on SNCF:

1. delete all cookies

2. re-book trip

3. try a different credit card

Montparnasse:

1. go up Tour Montparnasse for best Paris overview

2. stand along blvd Montparnasse at 10:00 pm on Friday and watch thousands of rollerbladers go by

3. visit the well-maintained Cimitiere de Montparnasse

4. Arts and Crafts market on Sundays, starting at 10am,

along blvd Edgar Quinet

Your hotel is on the %26#39;other side%26#39; of Montparnasse from these activities.... I%26#39;m not familiar with the immediate area.

Clargon...about a 15 minute walk will get you to the St. Germain de Pres area. Have a good time.

Stopped in a hotel close to montparnasse tower last september, sunset from top of tower is great and one of cheapest drinks in paris from the bar, dont know your hotel but area around blvd montparnasse certainly lively late at night. Found a bar near tim hotel which had live jazz or other music on most nights. Area certainly safe at night i%26#39;m in my 60%26#39;s was great to get back to the hotel at 10 and then go out for a few hours to wind down after a full day exploring paris. As u are there on week days plenty of great places for breakfast (around montparnasse station) that the commuters use not open sat or sun. I Think it is line 6 out of montparnasse station that goes overground past the other tower into the centre of paris a different way to see parts of paris especially at night.
