Hi to all
I am travelling with my wife and 4 friends to Nice for the last 3 days in august this year. I am trying to find a hotel that a) has a nice pool b) is reasonable priced (100 per room per night area) and c) is in a good location for shops/restaurants.
I have spent hours so far on guide books, internet sites etc and feel i am going round in circles...so far i have the following hotels on my short list - sofitel (location lets it down i think), hi hotel (inconsistent reviews), hotel Nice riviera (looks ok), Tulip inn (looks good value) ad the grand hotel aston (indifferent reviews)....can anyone help and recommend one of the above (or better if you know of one)
thanks - desperately
dazed and confused

The IBIS city centre has a pool and is a short walk from the beach, we have stayed here a few times as well as lots of other IBIS hotels around France etc but have not used the pool yet

thanks for the advice on the ibis i will check it out.....:)

Hi
I had looked at similar hotels to you, I agree Sofitel looked amazing and a good rate also but too far out.
I think I am going for Mercure Centre Notre Dam, location seems good and it has a pool and the rates good too.
I%26#39;m just waiting on info back from this forum and if they say it%26#39;s ok I%26#39;m going to book that
cheers

You can%26#39;t compare a 2 star Ibis with a 3 star Mercure and a 3.5 star Sofitel (close to a 4 star). Ibis is close to the Promenade, Sofitel a bit further up and the Mercure is the most far away in these 3 hotels.
Hi Hotel is too hip (hype???)
Grand Hotel Aston (also know as Gold Tulip Grand Hostel Aston) is quite old, really close to the Promenade and the the Old Town, has a pool and has been renovated. Still looks old to me when I see it. Haven%26#39;t stayed there.
Splendid also has a pool and is quite nicely located.

The Hotel Nice Riviera (was Hotel Rivoli) has an indoor pool. It%26#39;s on rue Pastorelli. Can%26#39;t say what it%26#39;s really like but it%26#39;s had some good reviews since the renovations last year.

I stayed at the Mercure Centre Notre Dame for a week in June 2005. I had a pleasent stay there. The pool is on the roof of hotel and small but I found it great to relax for hr or two after
sightseeing. The hotel is a 5 min walk to train station (very handy) but its a 20 min walk to Old Town to restaurants. I would not rave about hotel its a basic 3 star room was nice enough clean, Hot buffet breakfast was included in my rate ( the only hot food was scrambled egg, sausages which did not change for week).Would I stay there again ? Maybe but I think for the money I paid I could have done better. Reason I chose it was I wanted a pool and within my price range there was not alot better on offer by the way I paid 140 per night bed %26amp; breakfast

An excellent hotel fro staying at Nice is the Citea Chains Hotels. In the Nice there are the Citea Nice Magnan and the Citea Nice Acropolis. Citea Nice Acropolis open in 10 of August 2005 and we are going to stay for 10 days. Both hotels have piscine and are in the centre.
I have read very good reviews for the Citea Nice Magnan and i beleive that the new hotel Citea Nice Acropolis will be as good as the other.
We will pay for 10 days for 2 person 620 Eyrw and this means 62 Euro the double room studio per day.
Visiti the www.citea.com and check prices and availiablity for the days that you are interested.
Regards
Dolly

This hotel charges an extra 12 euros per day per guest to use their pool. They do not mention this in their advertising or at check-in, and it is a big shock to unsuspecting guests who are already paying a high price for this hotel. Even more tacky, is the fact that they only charge 3 euros more for non patrons to use the pool, and that certainly doesn%26#39;t make the paying guests feel very valued! Also, the rooms are old and need considerable upgrading (painting, cleaner carpets etc.) especially since it is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. My advice: stay elsewhere and swim in the ocean!
