We are headed to Provence in October -- we love history, art, architecture, circuses and good food (not necessarily in that order!) We want to ask you all what is the best experience you have had in any of your trips to Provence -- off beat or special sight or village, great experience, beat meal, whatever. We will have a car and 2 weeks of flexibility. Thanks for your responses.

We were leaving St. Remy to drive to les Baux and mistakenly turned too soon and took a road other than what we had intended. In St. Remy you will be on a circular one-way street that skirts the downtown area. In any case, we ended up exiting one street ahead of the main route that was indicated on our map. I believe it was named something like la Petite Route des Baux. As a result we were soon in the mountains ( which are not very high) and first glimpsed les Baux from across a valley at the same altitude. It was a memorable and dramatic introduction to the old town.

Don%26#39;t miss Avignon. It is gorgeous in October with the Harvest moon sunsets. The architecture alone is worth the trip.
I live in a small village at the foot of Mt. Ventoux and would recommend highly a visit to the mountain - 45 minutes from Avignon.
If you like red wine, then you would enjoy a visit to Gigondas, Chateauneuf du Pape, Violes, St. Cecile les Vignes, etc., etc.
Too many things to cover.
A visit to the hilltop village of Gordes is unforgettable (Luberon). The roman ruins in Orange and Vaison la Romaine are also lovey...
Have a great time.
