Is Porte De Clichy a nice place?

Hi everyone,

I%26#39;m reposting as my husband and I are going on a euro trip and our last stop is at Paris at the Hotel Ibis at Porte De Clichy.

We have extended our stay an extra night but need to find our hotel room.

Our options are

1) Stay an extra night at Ibis at Porte De Clichy

2) Find another hotel somewhere else? But where??? Please recommend an area we should stay and what hotel we should stay at. Our budget is around $150.

3) By the way, is it easy to get around in Paris? Like taxi? Or can we walk from one area to another?

Thanks very much!

1) it is sort-of in the outskirt area, so will be quite inconvenient as a base for sightseeing. However you only have one extra night so spending time and effort to move to another hotel might not be worth your while. You can take the metro for sightseeing, though.

3) you take the metro, or walk. Paris traffic.. not nice.

Staying at Porte De Clichy means that when you step out of your hotel you won%26#39;t be in Picture Postcard Paris. Any address with %26#39;porte%26#39; in it means the edge of the city, normally where the real people live/work and usually where you won%26#39;t find what you think Paris is be (Notre Dame, etc...)

In saying that once you leave your hotel and take the metro which is right beside it, you%26#39;ll find yourself in the heart of town in 22 minutes, or on the Champs d%26#39;Elysees in 12 or right by the Eiffel Tower in 15.

Paris is small, compact and has fast, cheap public transport. Tripadvisors can probably help you find a more central hotel for the same $$$ but I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about where you are at the moment.

For just one night more, it%26#39;s not worth the hassle and the time you%26#39;ll lose, when changing the hotel. Just my opinion.

You%26#39;ll be already a bit familiar with where you are like where the metro stop is located, etc. With a different location, it starts all over again and this for just another day. While Porte de Clichy isn%26#39;t particularlary convenient nor charming, I would not change.

If you had another two nights, then, yes.

If you want to maximise your time in central Paris, consider booking room only for the final night, then get straight on the metro in the morning and have coffee and croissants at a sidewalk cafe somewhere near your first destination.

I also consider POrte de Lcihy as not being really a good place to stay for sightseeing Paris. With your budget, you should have no problem to find another hotel within Paris, closer to the major sights.

Here are a list of different possibilities:

Hotel Saint Domnique, 7th, http://www.saintdominique.com

Hotel Prince Albert Tour Eiffel, 15th, http://www.princealbert-toureiffel.com

Hotel Vendome Saint Germain, 5th, http://www.paris-hotelvendome.com

Hotel Rive Gauche, 6th, http://www.hotelrivegauche.com

There are plenty others...Those are the ones I would advice you in your budget and to be close to a lot of major sights...

Have a nice trip!

Some other thoughts:

I agree with another poster that moving for one night may be more trouble than it is worth.

That Ibis is not the most charming hotel, but is functional. It is between two metro stops, Porte de Clichy (metro and RER C) and Brochant. Near Brochant is the charming Batignolles area, which is worth a walk through if time permits.

If you are responsible for your own trasport to the airport and it happens to be CDG, leaving from the Porte de Clichy will save you about 7-10 euros as opposed to leaving from the center or the left bank.

Everybody has been very diplomatic in their answers. Not charming. Not really close to any attractions. Not, not. If you read in between the lines...

I don%26#39;t know if this is your first trip to Paris but I would probably choose another area to stay. I don%26#39;t want you to leave Paris with a wrong feeling. And yes you are closer to CDG but...that%26#39;s pretty much it.

Best way to get around Paris is on foot.

I have friends from Belgium who always stay at hotel Ibis porte de Clichy because it is easy to access + park when they drive down. They say it is also close to metro and since they know Paris well it does not bother them to take a metro every morning to go where they want to go.

If you are already there and want to stay an extra day I would not switch hotels. Take a metro in the morning and maybe a taxi at night to go back if you feel tired.

That location is not good IMO - too far - but it is ok - safe -and I would not make a big deal about it.

Try to focus on the positive: you will be in Paris!
