Inexpensive hotel near an RER station - preferably in a...

Hi

My husband will be in Paris for one night only (we have a layover there) and are looking for an clean, inexpensive hotel in a safe and preferably cute neighborhood near an RER station.

Any ideas? Also, does the RER run as early as 5:30AM?

I%26#39;m not sure which RER line you%26#39;re talking about, but am assuming it is the line that comes down from CDG. I%26#39;m also not sure exactly what you mean by inexpensive.

Stops with interesting neighborhoods around them include Chatelet-les Halles (I have stayed at the Hotel Britannique in that neighborhood, which is also near the Marais district and the Louvre), St. Michel (I have stayed at the Hotel Royale St. Michel, right across from the RER stop, and near the Latin Quarter) and Luxembourg (near Jardin du Luxembourg and a lot of very reasonably priced hotels that sound good,but at which I have never stayed).

If you go on the parisby.com website, you will get good descriptions of hotels and neighborhoods. For Chatelet I would look at the 1st and 3rd arrondissements; for the St. Michel stop I would look at the 5th and 6th, and for Luxembourg I would also look at the 5th and 6th. I would also carefully check a map to see where the hotel is in relation to the RER stop.

One other thing -- that RER line also stops at the Gare du Nord neighborhood before Chatelet. Gare du Nord is a more commericial neighborhood, maybe not as %26quot;cute%26quot; as others mentioned, but still interesting and probably easier to find inexpensive accommodation.

Also, I am not sure if the RER is running at 5.30 a.m.

Neighbourhoods immediately close to any major train station in Paris are generally not the safest.

Have a look at Hotel Vendome in the 5th, not far away from RER B Luxembourg stop...It is a too star hotel so maybe it can be in your budget!
