Beaches?

We will be in the Loire Valley for about ten days in late August, with kids - 14, 11 and 9. We would like to intersperse some days lolling by a body of water and wonder if there are any suggestions?

Not in the Loire Valley, It is a river valley

So are there no lakes ?

I too would be interested in knowing if there is anywhere to swim/play near water, not ocean, but a river swimming hole or a lake. Anywhere near Paris, or even an hour or two out by train?

There are loads of places the locals use the river itself,as they know the right places to to go in. Some campings in the area have lakes that boarder them and even have sand.Samuer

has nice places to jump in with grassy places to relax. My tips is watch the locals or ask in the the local Bakers.

If you%26#39;re into camping there is an excellent site at Marcon, camping du Lac des Varennes. They have a large lake on site and I think 2 %26#39;beaches%26#39;. Most of the camp-site is given to tents/campers but they do have a few mobile homes. They seem quite small though, and with 5 of you, somebody may end up on the sofa bed.

Thanks for your mail. Do you know of any other camp sites in the area.I have 2 kids that must have a good pool area.

The best pool complex I know of is at Onzain, camping de Dugny.

That%26#39;s about all they have going for it, though. Service, food, beer and other facilities could all do with improving. we used to have a mobile home there, but moved it across to the other side of the Loire, where the pools are more basic , but a great camp-site for smaller kids,

Yes,I have seen the web site, looks good but a little too big.

I would be greatful for any other camp sites you could recomend with a water slide but you dont lose out on the other

things,oh, and fishing is a must for my son and husband!

Again thank you!

Can%26#39;t say that I know any other sites myself. One thing that might be worth looking at is the municipal swimming pools. Here in Le Lude, the %26#39;council%26#39; owns the campsite which is adjacent to the local swimming pool. It has an outside pool with a water slide, but is only open during high season. During the winter, it%26#39;s indoor pool only. Therefore, if you find a good camp-site but without the pool facilities, try finding out if there is a good local pool nearby. As far as fishing goes, shouldn%26#39;t be a problem. It%26#39;s very much part of the local culture here.
