touring Normandy from LeHavre

We will be in LeHavre the week of the 22nd for a one day cruise stop. My wife and I are traveling with our 2 sons (16 and 11) and would like to know if there are any recommendations for a driver for the day. Alternatively, if there are better ways to see highlights of Normandy in a limited time, please let me know!

Thanks

What do you want to see? The D Day Beaches? Rouen? Bayeaux Tapestry? Mont St. Michel? I%26#39;d be surprised of the cruise ship didn%26#39;t have several options available to you.

We%26#39;re there on Sept. 1 with Royal Caribbean. Hope to see as much as we can - renting a car for the day. Ship is in port from 07.00 - 22.00. D-day Beaches, Mont St. Michel, and other spots are on our itinerary, if possible, but not doing shore excursions with RCCL; we plan to set off on our own (4 of us.)

I hope you will be able to fit in Mont St. Michel and the D-Day Beaches in your limited time.

We did 4 of the D-Day Beaches (We didn%26#39;t get to Utah) and visited the American Cemetary at Colleville sur Mer and the German Cemetary (La Cambe, I think) and it took us most of the day.

I would suggest you take the A 13 peage (toll motorway) as far as Junction 30 and then follow the signs for Ranville, Benouville, Pegasus Bridge. The Pegasus Bridge Memorial is wonderful. Then follow the signs for the D-Day tour to Sword, then down along the coast to the various beaches. Do include the Pointe du Hoc. Remember the American Cemetary closes at 5.00 for new visitors. It is vast - try and be there at 4.30 or beforehand - they will only request you to leave after about 5.30.

Hope this helps.

My guess is that it is about a 2 hour drive from Le Havre to the American Cemetery above Omaha Beach. It is a short drive from there to Pont du Hoc.
