If I were to rent a car from one of the rental places in Nice proper (ex/Budget) would they allow me to park the car in their lot for a more nominal fee than the public parking would cost??? Thanks!

Most rental places I know in Nice (e.g. Hertz besides the train station on Ave de Thiers) use the facilities of public parkings but as soon as you rent the car you are on your own. Public parkings are not that expensive (compared to Boston for instance!)

Also consider hotels can charge up to 20 Euro per night to park on top of your bill. Check with them first.

Nice is a place where you most of the time just dont need a rental car. The public communications are abum´ndant and excellent and doesnt cost much. The issue, in my view, is not so much how/by whom to rent a car but IF, at all. Thats best assessed when already being there. At LUTAM, you can park the car at no extra cost as often as you like and for as long as you like. They are smock in the heart of the city, within convenient walking distance from most city-centre hotels. However, using a car, don´t forget that theres need to park it also upon arrival to the daytrip destinations. Monaco is twenty minutes by train from Nice, Cannes less than an hour, antibes half an hour. Many buses also into the back country. Plus the rather spectacular narrow-gauge railcar up to Digne les bains.
