bus vs RER from CDG?

My daughter has some mobility issues and since we%26#39;ll have luggage, we%26#39;d planned to take the air france bus %26amp; then taxi to the apt we rented in the 5th. But it%26#39;s just a few blocks from the St Michel RER station. Is RER a better option?

goinglobal,

In my opinion, it all depends on how much luggage you have and the mobility issues your daughter has. Be aware that despite recent efforts, France is less friendly to people with mobility isues than the USA. I would recommend the Air France bus only because you can take it right from the Terminal, it is a comfortable ride, and there are people who put your luggage underneath the bus to your final destination. The RER to the airport has room for luggage, but it involves going up and down a lot of stairs.

I saw your other post. I will have to agree with what was said; you are probably better off with a cab or a door to door shuttle. If you decide to take the RER, here is how you get to it from terminal 1: Once you are past customs, go to gate # 22. There , you take the Airport shuttle #2 to the RER station, about a 5 to 10 minute ride. Tell the driver you are going to the RER station. The bus will stop right in front of the RER station. It is the same bus that people take to go to Terminal 3. FYI: The RER has 2 stops at CDG, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 ( end of the line ). Enjoy your trip.

I took the RER to St Michel the other day and it was relatively straightforward (and we didn%26#39;t encounter stairs, rather escalators when we got off) However, we took the Notre Dame exit to street level and had to wheel luggage past the cathedral and over the bridge. You can travel through the underground station (probably via moving walkways) and come out at Place St Michel.

The main reason we opted to take the RER was because it was included within our carte orange we immediately purchased from CDG.

If your daughter has a personal mobility issue, then the RER B-3 train will NOT be a viable option for you.

The #4 AIR FRANCE COACH--(w/stops at Gare de Lyon-Gare Montparnasse--12 Euro each) to it%26#39;s first stop, just across from the entrance to GARE de LYON and then a taxi from the regular taxi rank right there will probably suit your specific special needs best. The Air France Coaches are large motorcoaches with under-coach luggage stowage, so you will not have to carry bags onto or off of the bus with you.

But given your specific personal mobility issues, you should also give serious consideration to simply taking a TAXI PARISIEN from the regular ranks outside of every CDG Arrival terminal building, to your final destination within Paris. The AFC #4 fare for the two of you will be 24 Euro, then perhaps another 10-12 Euro for the taxi fare from Gare de Lyon to your hotel=36-38 Euro for the trip. The regular taxi fare would probably be 45-50 Euro. Given your circumstances, the extra cost may well justified byt the added convenience.

For your return to CDG, check out the various airport shuttle services, with pick-up at your hotel and drop-off at your CDG Departure terminal (simply have your hotel front desk telephone ahead (the day before departure) for a pick-up reservation. Among other airport shuttle services, check--

If I where you I wd take a shuttle, is a terminal to door service ( no swithcing from train or airport bus to taxi) and its punctual and reasonably priced).Twice I have used them w/o problems. Check the websites mentioned by anterior post.
