Location or comfort?

We are going to Paris for the first time in November and are having major problems deciding between location and comfort. In Paris, which is more important? Location or comfort? The 2 hotels we%26#39;re trying to decide on are the Hotel Langlois and Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais. Our research on Tripadvisor has come to the conclusion that one has a better location in Marais (Beaumarchais) and the other has nicer rooms (Langlois in the 9th dist). Both are about the same price.

HOTEL LANGLOIS-PROS

-bigger rooms %26amp; bathrooms

-better Tripadvisor rating (#6)

-friendlier staff

-more quiet

-near Gallerie Lafayette

CONS

-not quite as central as Marais

-not as many places to eat as Marais

-not much night activities in area

HOTEL CARON DE BEAUMARCHAIS-PROS

-great location in Marais

-more places to eat %26amp; shop

-closer to attractions

CONS

-staff can be rude (according to some reviews)

-very small rooms %26amp; bathrooms

-rating on Tripadvisor is lower (#41)

Could somebody please provide some input to help us decide? Thanks in advance.

Dear Lucyethel:

All I can say is that I%26#39;ve stayed several times at the Caron de Beaumarchais and really enjoyed it. (Please note, however, that it%26#39;s been several years since I stayed there and things may have changed.) I thought that the bathrooms were perfectly fine, with all the amenities. They were also spotless. I always had rooms at the back of the hotel, so they were very quiet.

I love the Marais district. It is very colorful. The location is great, and if you go in forwarned, you can deal with the front desk!

As long as you know, going in that the rooms are not going to be spacious,;you pack light, and are ready to accept that this is Paris and embrace the differences, you should be fine!

Bon chance and bon voyage!

You are not going to stay for an extended period of time in Paris... and while there other than sleeping, I would not expect you to spend much time in your hotel room.... so definitely location is a priority...

Thank you very much for your suggestions. We%26#39;re going in November and staying 9 nights. Since 9 nights seems like a longer amount of time than most people spend in Paris, one of our rationals was that we wanted a comfortable room to come back to each night. (Couldn%26#39;t imagine coming back to a hotel we hated for a week and a half) If we were staying for a shorter amount of time we%26#39;d definitely go with the hotel in the Marais district. But from what we%26#39;ve read, the Marais district is more lively and there is more to do at night in that area compared to where the Langlois is. Even Rick Steves recommended staying in the Marais. So that is why we%26#39;re torn between a great location and what seems to be a better hotel.

The wonderful thing about Paris is that armed with a metro pass and the good metro map, anywhere you want to go is just a few minutes away.We happen to love the area around the Lux. Gardens and always stay there. Our hotel is within 2 minutes from the metro entrance. We have been known to leave the room around 9pm for a quick look at the Eiffel Tour lite up, or run over to a favorite bakery in the 7th arrond. for some breakfast items, come back to the room and have a wonderful breakfast, then start the day.
