I am going to Nice for 1 day and St. Tropez for 1 day. We are beach lovers and love geat food. Any suggestions for the best of each in such a short time.

Nice does not have nice beaches as such... however it is delightlful to walk along it promenade along the sea side.
St. Tropez has much more interesting beaches (long and sandy) with %26#39;attractive%26#39; people :) ... I am assuming you are planning to be there in the summer time. The main beaches (Pampelonne) our outside the town of St. Tropez... say 10 minutes by car...
What you need to consider is that it is a rather long trip from Nice to St. Tropez and back.... there are no trains up till St. Tropez... so you will have to do part train / part bus if you are going by public transportation... If you rent a car, which is more convenient, its takes about two hours each way considering the crowded roads at this time of the year ... leaving St. Tropez in the late afternoon - when most other people are - takes you into bumper to bumper traffic for miles and miles.... I have done this one day trip four times in four different visits and survived the traffic... for me it was worth it.

Unless you can afford a helicopter - you can take a ferry... which is quite a nice trip and a much easier way then driving http://www.trans-cote-azur.com (make a reservation by calling first). Traveling on the road in the summer months are crazy in the South of France. Beaches - it%26#39;s not Bermuda, it%26#39;s more about the people watching, wear flip-flops! The bars off the beaches are quite fun AND outside the town of St Tropez so you%26#39;ll have to find a way to get to the good ones. I%26#39;m there next week, can%26#39;t wait! - ENJOY!

We will be on a cruise so we don%26#39;t need transportation. I just wanted the best beaches in each place since we only have one day. We have a full day in Nice and would love some advice on great restaurants. We will be there w/o Aug 20th.

Sorry about that...
St Tropez - like I said, the beaches to be honest are not the nicest in the world but looking out over all the yachts in the ocean is quite pretty. It%26#39;s more of a social scene. I looked this website up for you which says it all really... hits it right on the nose..http://www.frommers.com/destinations/sttropez/0147020389.html
Nice - I only overnight there on the way to St Tropez. But I always find Via Michelin Guide to be right on with their reviews. You should try there for good advice on Restaurants etc. viamichelin.com/viamichelin/…Restaurants
Hope this helps and have a good trip
