Paris Hotel discount Recommendations and excursion ideas

hi all,

I will be traveling to Pris for 2 weeks during the end of September and beginning of October with my husband.

We would like to stay in a 3 star hotel. I don%26#39;t think we can afford a four star. We really want to be close to the attractions (preferably walking) and would like a nice hotel in a good area that has double or queen size beds. We are so used to sleeping in a king size bed. We have heard that the Hotel Sevigne, Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, Hotel des Croises,Hotel du Dragon, and Median Cahtillon had good reviews. Has anyone hard of Citadines Apart%26#39;Hotel Austerlitz? I have not been able to find any rates for these hotels online. Whee do people book their hotels and how do you get great rates? Should I allow time for excursions and where to? I don%26#39;t wnat to book non-refundable hotel rooms and then find out when we get there that there are some great places to go to for a few nights.

Thanks for you help.

I don%26#39;t like booking sites, prefer dealing directly with the hotels...

Hotel le Sevigne - Marais

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles

Hotel des Croises (it is now %26quot;Langlois%26quot;)

Hotel du Dragon

Median Chatillon - this is NOT in Paris

Citadines Apart%26#39;Hotel Austerlitz

(but I don%26#39;t see %26quot;Austerlitz%26quot;as one of the choices)

Thanks travelnutty for your help. Any preferences on the hotels? Which one is nicer and in a beter location? Ideas on excursions?

Of the hotels listed, I%26#39;d choose either the Grandes Ecoles (no tv if that matters) or the Langlois... the others don%26#39;t appeal to me very much, except maybe Hotel Sevigne in the Marais area. The Citadines are more expensive, you don%26#39;t even want to consider the Chatillon%26#39;s location, and not sure about du Dragon...

Here are some other good but inexpensive hotels that I believe will have good remarks on this website:

Hotel du College de France (5th) 93-110 Euro

Hotel St Thomas d%26#39;Aquin (7th) 120 Euro

Hotel Delambre (14th, by Jardin de Luxembourg) 85-110 Euro

Daytrip excursions that are easy enough to do on your own:

1. Versailles - r/t ticket on RER costs about 6 Euro; RER-C to Versailles Rive Gauche; use www.mappy.com to get a map for the walking route (it%26#39;s about a 10-minute walk, view of chateau at end of long, tree-lined boulevard)

2. Fontainebleau - regular SNCF train to Fontainebleau/Avon station, then go outside and take a city bus to Chateau (it might say %26quot;A/B%26quot; on the sign over the driver. Don%26#39;t remember the train ticket cost but very inexpensive. The bus stops just in front of the chateau - the town is very pleasant to walk around, then you take the same bus back to train, and return.

If you wanted to spend a couple of nights elsewhere, there are many great choices: Angers, Tours, Troyes, Rouen... all with much history, timbered houses, good food and wine, etc. All accessible by train to the town centers.

Just wanted to thank you travel nutty for the wealth of information you provided. I wish I had you as a travel agent. These are great sites and ideas for excursions. The difficult part will be to plan which days to go to the various excursions and whether we will want to stay at any of these places overnight, for a change of scenery and some relaxation!

Thanks for that compliment!

There are too many choices, aren%26#39;t there?
