Beaujolais Nouveau Day

Hi - last year the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau was on November 18th - is it always on a specific day? Does anyone know the day in November for 2005? Merci!

Is always the third Thursday of November. For 2005, i think is November 16th.

|||

Does anything special happen on the release day in Paris? I know at least that people in Tennessee celebrate this day sometimes!

|||

nov 17 is the 3rd thursday in nov.

|||

I think of it more as a %26quot;commercial holiday%26quot;. I don%26#39;t do the stay-up-till-midnight thing but I do enjoy standing outside le Rubis on rue Marche St. Honore sipping BN served on a wine barrel on the sidewalk in the afternoon. Le Baron Rouge also has a decent tribute to the wine for a week or two.

%26lt;%26lt;I think of it more as a %26quot;commercial holiday%26quot;%26gt;%26gt;

Absolutely!

Give me a glass of Bordeaux any time instead.

|||

Personnally, I prefer wine to Beaujolais nouveau, too :)

|||

But it is interesting to see how the establishments do promote the BN. At a local bistrot last year the waitress (well known to me) made it clear that I really should try at least a pichet of BN during the %26quot;season%26quot; and, after I declined and went for the Chinon, I detected a bit of a chill in the air for a moment or two.

BN is a great wine in the category of cheap wines. I love it.

|||

The release of BN is always fun simply because there is such a festive atmosphere in cafes and restaurants. It%26#39;s fine for lunch with a sandwich or an omelet. Save the rest of your wine calories for something like a nice Cotes du Rhone, Bordeaux, Burgogne, etc.

Couldn%26#39;t agree more - just curious as to date of the carnival-like atmosphere that usually surrounds BN release, as we arrive on 18 Nov.

NYC also similarly celebrates BN release and it%26#39;s fun drinking %26quot;grape juice%26quot; for free when certain restaurants and wine shops give it away as a promotion.

This discusssion reminds me of when I first visited Europe years ago, Berlin to be exact - I was asked it I wanted a glass of %26quot;American wine.%26quot; When I replied as to what that was, my host said %26quot;Coca-Cola of course!%26quot; ;-)
