Wine Shop

This might be a silly question but where is a good place to purchase wine in Paris? We are two families traveling together and have rented apartments. Since we have six children between us, we likely will not be eating many meals in restaurants. We are wine enthusiasts and are looking forward to tasting many different French wines. Can anyone recommend a shop with a good selection and good prices?

Depends on your expectations. If you are not looking for specific vintages/domaines, then larger specialist chains such as Nicolas are more than adequate and, though not downright cheap, fairly priced. There is a Nicolas in almost every neighborhood and they also offer a reasonable selection of first class wines. These are probably overpriced, but the convenience is worth it.

I would warn you against looking in any of the supermarkets (G20, Monoprix, Franprix, etc). They have a lot of pretty bad wines on the shelf.

If you are staying in the st germain area you can buy wonderfull wine and gourmet items of all kinds at the food market of Le Bon Marche. It across the street from the main store le Grande Epicerie. As a matter of fact, you can buy all your groceries there if you want to spend a little more for the necessities

Thank you so much!

what about a specialty wine shop that has specific vintages and more well known wineries? We are staying in the 7th arr. but are willing to venture out for fun wine shopping.
