I read about a 40 km. rollerblading circuit of the city that takes place every Friday night. Does this event still take place? Has anyone out there done it?
My teenage son would like to participate but I%26#39;m a little worried. His skill level is very high but I%26#39;m very concerned about traffic. Are my concerns valid?
Are rentals readily available?
Any ther comments?
Thanks

There is a website and it will give the route (it changes during the same week of that Friday%26#39;s event), and there are rental places listed as well. If he is very capable, he%26#39;ll be ok, but they go very hard and fast so be honest about that, for his sake.
The police clear and stop traffic, and there%26#39;s an ambulance at the end, just in case. The skaters actually use the streets (so bumpy, hilly, etc).

I am just booking to go on the skate in a couple of weeks. It goes every Friday night, 10am to about 1pm. If he can skate on the street then he can do this. 10,000 people, police escort etc. All very organised and safe. Details on http://www.pari-roller.com/?lang=en (he can certainly do it by the sound of things!)

My husband went and it was the highlight of his trip. Even as a spectater, it was amazing. There had have been 5,000 or more skaters there.
He did haul his own skates with him. Rentals (according my rollarblading husband) are iffy, at best.

Thanks, this definately sounds like something he will love to do. Unfortunatley, I don%26#39;t think bringing his own rollerblades will be an option as Paris is just our first stop on a 4 week holiday. If anyone has more information on rentals, I would appreciate it.

Re Charlesm note, the event starts at 10pm on friday night, we stopped at a hotel near the montparnasse tower, it was a great sight to see all the roller bladers, there was a vast number of teenages and some very young ones. There are also organised bike rides around paris, one night having a drink on the blvd montparnasse i would think about 200 bike riders rode past, of all ages, we saw them later riding by the side of the seine. Not sure about the bladders but the bikers because of their numbers seemed to dictate to other road users, they had marshalls at the front and back

There is a place called Rollers et Coquillages on Boulevard Bourdon next to Bastille, i think they rent rollerblades there. Many of these employees are part of the tour.
