How strange. I was literally in the lobby of that hotel yesterday around noon, scoping it out for a friend who wants to stay in a modern hotel this winter.

I haven%26#39;t seen the rooms in that hotel but I%26#39;ve stayed in the Pierre %26amp; Vacances %26quot;apart hotels%26quot; before. They%26#39;re no-frills, two star hotels that I%26#39;ve found to be clean and reliable. They%26#39;re usually run with a minimal staff but the rooms always seem to get cleaned every day.

That particular hotel shares a new building with the Ibis Paris Bercy Village hotel. and is directly across a pedestrian square from the Sofitel Paris Bercy, a luxury hotel. It%26#39;s part of a completely redeveloped area that once was the main shipping depot for wine coming into Paris in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It%26#39;s a very historic area but unfortunately doesn%26#39;t look much like the Paris you see on postcards.

It%26#39;s part of a place called %26quot;Bercy Village%26quot;. If you%26#39;re looking for a taste of %26quot;old Paris%26quot;, you won%26#39;t find it there BUT it%26#39;s actually really, really nice. Bercy village is a redeveloped block of wine-storage buildings that was transformed into a shopping and restaurant pedestrian street. Everything%26#39;s clean and new and there are theaters, shops and some nice bistros. I generally don%26#39;t like this kind of development but the city did a beautiful job in this case. It%26#39;s also next to %26quot;le Parc de Bercy%26quot; which is one of my favorites that tourists don%26#39;t know about yet.

The new Metro line 14, station %26quot;Cour St. Emilion%26quot; is right there and that line, known as the %26quot;meteor%26quot;, will get you to central Paris in 10 minutes.

If you can handle staying in an area that is entirely new, you%26#39;ll probably like it there.

It%26#39;s a nice enough area but I wouldn%26#39;t advice a tourist coming to Paris to stay there just because it isn%26#39;t what most tourists want to see. I would look for a hotel in the 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements just so you can be in the center of Paris and walk out the door of your hotel and get that wonderful feeling of walking down streets you have dreamed about and being near all of the sites most want to see. Having said that, as was said before, line 14 is a good one and can quickly get you to central Paris. I just think most people like what I mentioned before. I%26#39;ve taken people through the St Germain des Pres area before, for example, and they always say, %26quot;Man, I wish we were staying around here.%26quot;

I agree lpennin104, it goes without saying.

It%26#39;s hard to beat 75 Euro/night if you%26#39;re on a budget though...
