Luggage on train from Paris to Dijon

We are traveling in September from Paris to Dijon and I have confirmed tickets and a reserved compartment on this train. Are the compartment overhead racks large enought to carry large luggage or must you put the luggage elsewhere? Thank you. Dennis

I think it depends on the kind of train you%26#39;re traveling on. If you%26#39;re traveling on one of the modern high-speed %26quot;TGV%26quot; trains, then there should be luggage shelves at the end of each car (especially good for big bags) in addition to overhead racks.

On other trains I imagine the setup varies -- there may or may not be luggage shelves at the end of the cars. My recent experience with French trains is practically exclusively on the TGV.

If you don%26#39;t already know what kind of train you%26#39;re traveling (for example, TGV or some other name) perhaps you could find out and post it here, and someone who has taken that particular type of train will respond.

Our train is TGV 9269. So I think with luggage storage at the end of the car, we are ok. This is our first train trip in France and we purchased PREM tickets online. We have printed them and now the confusion. Do you know if we validate the ticket at the station before boarding the train or just hand the ticket to the ticket collecter once we are on the train? Thank you.

All train tickets, TGV or otherwise, need to be validated. Look for the little yellow stamping machines before you walk out onto the platform - the French term is %26#39;composter%26#39;. Make sure the lables on your bags include your seat number.

And when you validate, or %26quot;composter,%26quot; validate only the ticket for the trip you%26#39;re taking that day. So when you leave Paris, you%26#39;ll validate your ticket for the trip to Dijon, but you won%26#39;t validate the ticket for the return trip until you%26#39;re at the Dijon station on your way back.

Thank you very much for the information.

DENNYF:

I found your posting very interesting...are you on The Wayfarers Burgundy Walk?
