Can anyone help? I am coming to Paris next weekend (20th August) for two nights with a friend. We are two women in our 40%26#39;s. We%26#39;d like to eat really good, straightforward French bistro food in a place that doesn%26#39;t cater mainly to tourists and where locals go. My friend speaks very good French, so we don%26#39;t need English menus! I think that maybe a lot of these places close in August, and some don%26#39;t open at the weekend, so does anyone have any suggestions? We are staying in the 9th, on Rue Notre Dame de Lorette, but we don%26#39;t mind where we go as long as it%26#39;s reasonably central...
Also, I remember about 5 years ago going to a lovely little square, tucked away off the main street, no traffic, very near St Paul metro I think - that had nice bistros. But I can%26#39;t remember the name! Does it ring a bell with anyone?

Place du Marche St. Catherine perhaps? Small square, trees, 4 or 5 bistros...

I have a couple of suggestions for Bistros:
%26quot;Melac%26quot;
42 rue Leon Frot in the 11th. Metro: Charonne
www.melac.fr
(great, simple bistro Always a great plat du jour)
%26quot;Au Bistro%26quot;
8 rue du Marche St. Honore in the 1st
(Absolutely start with the escargot)
%26quot;Le Reminet%26quot;
3 rue Grands-Degres in the 5th.

Your post inspired us to go back and have lunch at our favorite bistro on Place du Marche St. Catherine today. We just had a really wonderful lunch at Les Bougresses (15 Euro/2 courses). Highly recommend it for value/quality. 6 rue de Jarente in the 4th. Metro: St. Paul.

Thanks so much - that%26#39;s definitely the name of the square - and for your great suggestions of other places.
