Alternatives to driving

Bonjour! I%26#39;m going to visit Bordeaux next week for 3 days. Is it possible to explore the area without driving my own car? I%26#39;m planing to spend a day in St. Emilion. Is there train service to St. Emilion from Bordeaux? In St. Emilion, can I travel around on foot? Or better off join some guided tour?

Merci!!

Why all the interest here in St Emilion? A nice town on a hill, good macaroons, and no direct rail connection as far as I know. Take a cab from Libourne?

What I%26#39;d recommend instead is a ride out to the end of the line at Sarlat on the TER. It winds up the Dordogne valley, with a great vista of Beynac near the end. Have some fois gras with sauterne and maigret de canard, walk it off around the medieval town, and catch the last train back. Three other good rail day trips out of Bordeaux are up the coast to La Rochelle, down the coast to St. Jean de Luz, or to Perigueux. The trips aren%26#39;t quite as scenic, but the destinations are.
